Getting Started
Basically
To get started with lessons, tell us about yourself and what you’d like to learn using our Enrollment Form. From there we’ll search our network of teachers to find you the perfect match. Your teacher will then contact you to discuss details such as lesson schedule and required materials.
Generally
Each teacher sets their own rate, schedule, and studio policies. Most lessons are in the $30-35 range for a half hour, and are held weekly, on weekdays, between 4 and 8pm. Some teachers can accommodate irregular schedules (bi-weekly, daytime hours, or weekends), so don’t be afraid to ask if that’s your preference. Once you and your teacher set a lesson schedule, be ready to plan your personal and professional appointments around your lesson time; many teachers have limited ability to reschedule lessons, and do not offer refunds for missed lessons.
Plan accordingly
Beginning students should plan on practicing 90-120 minutes per week in addition to their lesson time. As a student advances, more practice will unlock faster progress. Parents should bear this in mind when managing their child’s schedule. In other words, music lessons shouldn’t be thought of as an activity that happens once per week, but an activity that occupies several time slots per week.
During lessons, parents and siblings, etc., will have a waiting area inside the lesson room. Those present should plan on quiet activities to pass the time. Parents are asked not to engage in the lesson, even in the event of a behavior issue, unless called upon by the teacher.
